The Purpose of a Wisdom School

Purpose

What is the purpose of a Wisdom School? A Wisdom School has an external purpose and an internal purpose.

The external purpose

The external purpose of a Wisdom School, as the name suggests, is to express wisdom, through its members. It also raises the level of consciousness in society.

How do members access wisdom? Wisdom does not come from learning, although that may help. Achieving wisdom is not an intellectual pursuit, although a sharp intellect helps. You can’t achieve wisdom from external achievements, although worldly pursuits may help.

Wisdom comes from within! It comes from taking away internal barriers. Those internal barriers limit our access to the ‘wise-person’ that exists within each of us.

Dismantling these internal barriers requires a conscious engagement on the inner journey.

The inner purpose

Hidden from view is the true purpose of a Wisdom School! That is to engage on the ‘inner journey’. Understanding the inner journey requires dedication and courage. Such commitment is within the ability of many but few are willing to walk this path.

In the west, there is a belief in the capacity of the mind of the individual. This is the first barrier on the inner journey. There is also strong attachment to ego, this is the other main barrier on the inner path.

Conclusion

There have been many Wisdom Schools throughout history. Many have been hidden from view. The silent echoes if these School guide culture and civilisations. But the main purpose of these schools is to provide a home for those willing to engage on the inner journey.
